The Actor’s Workout: Impulse Into Action

FALL 2015

Teacher: Benjamin Moore
Saturday, 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

November 7
Fee: $90
Location: NOLA Rehearsal Studios, 244 West 54th Street, 10th Floor – Studio 1

Like pianists doing finger exercises, or ballet dancers at the barre, actors need to continually hone the foundations of their craft.

This workshop will explore how the freedom of the Linklater voice work can be a bridge into the world of Stanislavsky based acting.  After an energizing Linklater voice and body warm-up, you will become more alive to your intuitive impulses and bring them into the actions of your scene work.  By going through a series of exercises developed at the Moscow Art Theatre in attention and awareness, imagination, action, atmosphere, and scenic improvisation, you will learn how to follow your intuitive impulses into fully realized playing.   These classic acting techniques are equally applicable to theater artists with broad experience or those who are new to the techniques.

Participants should have a monologue prepared.  We will also break into small groups to work on short contemporary scenes.
