ANTONIO OCAMPO-GUZMAN joined the faculty of Florida State University’s School of Theatre in 2003, after completing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing and a Graduate Diploma in Voice at York University, in Toronto, Ontario.
Antonio originally trained as an actor with the Teatro Libre in his native Bogotá, Colombia, and after further studies in voice and physical theater in England, he spent three years with the renowned Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA. Although he acted on several productions (Henry VI, The Winter’s Tale, The Comedy of Errors, Julius Caesar among others), and was a member of the company’s team of artist managers, Antonio’s main focus was as a teacher with the company’s renowned Education Program.
Antonio trained as a voice teacher with Kristin Linklater (author of Freeing the Natural Voice and co- founder of The Company of Women). At Ms. Linklater’s invitation, Antonio joined the faculty of the Department of Performing Arts at Emerson College in Boston, MA. As an Artist-in-Residence at Emerson, Antonio spent six years teaching acting, voice and Shakespeare courses, and also creating original performance pieces with the first-year students.
Antonio has also been on the faculty of Boston College, Shakespeare & Company, The Linklater Studio, The Andrea Southwick Studio, The New Theatre Conservatory, and Exiles Theater in Cork, Ireland. Most recently, he has taught at the Canadian National Voice Intensive in Vancouver, BC. Antonio has also led workshops in Voice and Text for the Concord Players and the Hampshire Shakespeare Company.
Antonio has directed plays by such diverse authors as Shakespeare, Euripides, Ariel Dorfman, William Luce, John Herbert, T. Berto, Sarah Kane, Jean-Claude von Itallie, Leo Cabranes-Grant, Victoria Goring, and Alan Ayckbourne for York University, Emerson College, The Theatre Offensive, Stages Theatre Company, The Pato Farsante Company, and The British Council.
