NATURAL VOICE WORKSHOP - LEVEL 1
A lively introduction to the Linklater Voice Work or a terrific refresher for those who have already had Linklater classes. This workshop will help you free your breath, develop resonance, loosen jaw and tongue tensions and wake up your vocal range.
Relaxation and release is essential to opening, freeing and ultimately strengthening your voice. In this initial workshop, you are becoming aware of how your voice and body carry habitual tensions and beginning to undo them. This is the start to freeing your breath and vibrations of sound. As your voice begins to loosen up, the next step is to develop resonance by sensing and spreading the vibrations through the bony hollows of your body. Once this connection is established we can move onto addressing deep tensions that develop in the jaw, larynx, and tongue and encourage your sigh to find a free and focused pathway beyond those tensions that filter your message. By giving your sigh of sound a clear passageway from the lower body all the way up through the mouth, you will be ready to begin to strengthen the voice and activate more expressiveness with the resonating ladder. In Voice 1 you will contact the chest, the mouth, and the teeth resonators and blend to find a warm, relaxed and focused connection between your thoughts, feelings and your voice.
Voice and Feldenkrais Workshop
Tamala Bakkensen synthesizes the work of two brilliant teachers, Kristin Linklater and Moshe Feldenkrais, to help you liberate your body and free your natural voice by using them in healthier, more pleasurable and intelligent ways. This workshop will be both practical and creative: an opportunity to discover where your voice comes from, to reconnect with the vital rhythm or your essential breath and to learn how to amplify your sound vibrations by activating your resonators throughout your body. Powerful Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement Lessons® will help to clarify the ways in which your spine and skeleton can support you vocally. Learn to express yourself through your voice without straining or unnecessary muscular effort and use awareness to free your natural voice from inside to out. You will explore how to more fully embody your text with breath, body and imagery work. As well as how to recognize your genuine impulses to communicate through your body and voice.
Please wear comfortable clothes to move in. Bring a piece of text you’d like to work on that’s about 1 min long. This can be a monologue, speech, poem, etc. Also bring water and a snack. We will take a short break half way through the workshop.

This workshop is designed for professionals from all disciplines who would like to feel more confident and expressive in their communication, and more dynamic in getting their message across. You’ll learn a vocal warm-up that helps you to:
* Own your space and establish your physical presence
* Deal with nerves through relaxation and breathing techniques
* Warm your voice with an embodied resonance
* Find more expressive choices and colorful variety using more vocal range
* Wake up your articulation for clear and active speech
You’ll then be coached in a short talk that you have prepared, to look at how to bring your topic to life by connecting to your message, and using emphasis and phrasing to engage the interest of your audience. (The warm-up is gently physical so wear soft gym clothes that you can move in freely.)
