“Those whose aim is to share what they feel with an audience will allow emotional energy to activate the breath and generate vibrations. These vibrations, reinforced by all appropriate resonating feedback, will flow out through the body, gathering a mix of sinus, cheekbone and nasal vibrations as they travel through the face, creating sound waves with a carrying power faithful to the initial aim. Communication is the byproduct of desire, intention and freedom.”
Kristin Linklater
A lively introduction to the Linklater Voice Work or a terrific refresher for those who have already had Linklater classes. This workshop will help you free your breath, develop resonance, loosen jaw and tongue tensions and wake up your vocal range.
Relaxation and release is essential to opening, freeing and ultimately strengthening your voice. In this initial workshop, you are becoming aware of how your voice and body carry habitual tensions and beginning to undo them. This is the start to freeing your breath and vibrations of sound. As your voice begins to loosen up, the next step is to develop resonance by sensing and spreading the vibrations through the bony hollows of your body. Once this connection is established we can move onto addressing deep tensions that develop in the jaw, larynx, and tongue and encourage your sigh to find a free and focused pathway beyond those tensions that filter your message. By giving your sigh of sound a clear passageway from the lower body all the way up through the mouth, you will be ready to begin to strengthen the voice and activate more expressiveness with the resonating ladder. In Voice 1 you will contact the chest, the mouth, and the teeth resonators and blend to find a warm, relaxed and focused connection between your thoughts, feelings and your voice.

The essential attributes for an actor's voice are range, variety, beauty, clarity, power and volume, but sensitivity is the quality that will validate all the others for they are dull attributes unless reflecting inner energy. Then they come to life becoming the range of feelings, the variety of the mind, the beauty of the content, the clarity of the imagination, the power of the emotion, the volume of the need to communicate."
Kristin Linklater - Freeing the Natural Voice
Find more vocal freedom and clarity and link that into a very practical approach to text!
Each day will start a vocal warm-up: releasing physical tensions, freeing breath, developing more vocal resonance, and undoing tensions in the jaw and tongue. You’ll wake up the vocal resonating ladder to find more freedom, expressiveness, and strength. Then translate these exercises into the dynamics of speaking and articulation with a series of group exercises and individual coaching, for you to find an embodied and clear expression with your text. You’ll explore the process for bringing expressiveness into the storytelling with an authentic connection to the imagery and circumstances of your text, while seeing how it plays through to the actions of the character moment by moment.
This workshop is terrific preparation for cold readings, developing audition material, and getting ready to rehearse a play! Please have two monologues ready to explore.

This is a workshop for actors and other theater artists interested in forging a passionate, imaginative, embodied relationship with Shakespeare and his characters. Through each actor's choice of monologue, we will engage in a variety of approaches to Shakespeare's text, looking at structure of the verse, elements of language, and the use of rhetoric, while considering personalization, characterization, and the actor-audience relationship.
Whether you wish to begin or continue exploring a particular character or develop a monologue for auditions, this is an opportunity to expand your physical, emotional, and intellectual responsiveness to the demands and joys of playing Shakespeare.
Please choose and learn by heart a monologue which piques your curiosity and sparks great interest to speak these particular words.

The Advanced Voice Clinic is for performers and speakers who have previously learned the Linklater Voice Progression and are interested in taking a deeper dive into the intricacies of the method. It’s ideal as well for those who teach voice at the university level or are training to teach voice.
In this 1-day clinic we’ll explore the full progression of exercises developed by Kristin Linklater - focusing particularly on the sections in the later parts of the progression. We’ll zero in on the details of specific exercises, and we’ll look at the reasoning and purpose in how each section builds upon the one before and prepares the way ahead. The purpose is for you to experience ways to open your unique natural voice that connects to your inner life in a rich, authentic, and meaningful way, and then develop more vocal range, strength, and variety to meet the demands of your text.
This Advanced Voice Clinic will explore the energy that is sparked by the Breath capacity and liveliness exercises that can energize the extroverted upper range of your voice. Finally, play with the elements that contribute to a more imaginative and tactile experience of language that is embodied in vowels and consonants. We’ll see how all of this can be translated into a spoken text of your choice.
Space in this workshop is limited.
